Messi, Ronaldo and Falcao make 2012 Ballon d'Or shortlist

FIFA has named the list of players shortlisted for the prize, with a host of star names battling it out for the crown Fifa has announced the shortlist for this year's Fifa Ballon d'Or trophy, with 23 men who were selected by their football committee as well as by experts from the magazine France Football. Containing 12 players who are home to La Liga, this year's list is seeing a Spanish domination with two-times winner Lionel Messi, who on monday already grabbed the European Golden Shoe award for scoring 50 La Liga goals last season, being eager to score his third consecutive award. The Red Devils bounce back after going behind early as the England international strikes for the first time this season while Robin van Persie and Danny Welbeck also find the net Wayne Rooney scored a double and an own goal as Manchester United bounced back after going behind early to register a 4-2 victory over Stoke City at Old Trafford. The visitors took the lead when the England international nodded the ball into his own net from a Charlie Adam free-kick. United rallied and Rooney was on hand to get them back into the game with a thumping header. Mourinho: Falcao is a forbidden fruit

 The Blancos boss has revealed that he will not try to buy his rival's star player because of a transfer agreement, while criticising Tito Vilanova's comments regarding Pepe Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho claims he will make no attempt to sign Radamel Falcao from Atletico Madrid as a result of a "pact of non-aggression" between the two sides.
