Argentina's Sabella: They should invent a new word to describe Messi

The national team trainer has declared that a new term should be invented for the Barcelona star as the world runs out of superlatives for the three-time Ballon d'Or winner

Argentina coach Alejandro Sabella believes Lionel Messi is so good that he deserves his own word to describe his undoubted talent.

The diminutive attacker has been in superb form this season and has so far scored an incredible 58 goals in all competitions this term.

Messi also has a total of 22 goals for Argentina since making his international debut in 2005, and Sabella was full of praise for his star player.

"The Royal Academy of Spain should invent a word to define him [Lionel Messi] exactly. For me, as his coach, it is a privilege to direct him," he said in an interview with Radio Sport Telam.

Despite being crowned Ballon d'Or winner for the past three years, his international performances have come under scrutiny at times, and Sabella attempted to explain why Messi had enjoyed more success in club football.

"In Spain the referees are stricter with physical play. In contrast, in South America they are more permissive. If you play there [in Spain], there are more yellow and red cards and that is why Messi is better in Spain than when wearing the Argentina shirt," he explained.

"The best thing is that Messi is Argentine because he is a true ambassador of our country. He helps us on the field and makes us look good off it with his exemplary behaviour."

Messi is set to be in action for Barcelona on Saturday when the Catalan giants visit Zaragoza.

Brazil struggle to beat 10-man Ghana in friendly

Brazil, with playmaker Ronaldinho back in the side, struggled to beat 10-man Ghana 1-0 in a friendly at Fulham's Craven Cottage ground on Monday.  Leandro Damiao struck the only goal on the stroke of halftime, running on to a defence-splitting ball from Fernandinho and finding the corner of the net from a tight angle.  It was one of the few moments of invention from the former world champions, even with the crafty Ronaldinho returning for his first international appearance since November after showing excellent form for Brazilian title contenders Flamengo.  Ghana never threatened after having defender Daniel Opare sent off in the 32nd minute, a series of over exuberant challenges earning him repeated warnings from Mike Dean before the English referee ran out of patience.  The game started at a furious pace but the red card changed things, with Ghana retreating after halftime in a bid to keep Brazil at bay.  The...
