Sergio Aguero scored twice Monday in his Premier League debut as Manchester City made a confident start to the new season with a convincing 4-0 win over newly promoted Swansea City.
The Argentina forward, signed in the summer for around 38 million pounds from Atletico Madrid, scored the second and fourth goals, while strikes by Edin Dzeko and David Silva helped secure a comprehensive win.
The victory put them alongside Manchester United, Bolton Wanderers and Wolverhampton Wanderers as winners on the opening weekend.
City manager Roberto Mancini left Aguero on the substitutes' bench, but Yaya Toure almost put the home side ahead in the first minute with a fine shot, blocked on the line by Alan Tate.
Swansea played some nice football and matched City in the first half, though they needed a fine save by Michael Vorm to deny Silva, who minutes later hit the crossbar.
Vorm then kept out Dzeko, but Swansea needed another piece of luck to stay level as Gareth Barry's 20-yard effort rebounded off the bar.
The pressure was bound to tell in the end, and City took the lead 12 minutes into the second half as Vorm could only parry an Adam Johnson shot into the path of Dzeko.
Aguero almost scored within a minute of coming on just after the hour mark, but he did not need long and found the net from close range on 68 minutes after good work from Aguero.
Silva put the match beyond any doubt with the third goal three minutes later, and Aguero put the seal on the win with the best goal of the lot, rattling into the net with a stunning strike from 25 yards.
