Mourinho wishes Barcelona's Abidal 'a long and happy life'

The Barcelona full-back needs another liver transplant, and the Portuguese trainer has put sporting hostilities to one side to wish the defender the best of luck

Eric Abidal - Barcelona
Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho has put sporting rivalries to one side and wished Barcelonadefender Eric Abidal a speedy recovery from his liver transplant operation.

The France international full-back was diagnosed with liver cancer in March 2011, and underwent successful surgery to remove the tumour.

However it has now been revealed the Blaugrana man needs another medical procedure, and with the ailment threatening Abidal's life and career, the Los Blancos trainer has spoken of his hope that the defender will recover quickly.

"We all know that we are all together. Our players will show it this morning, without words, without public demonstrations," he told reporters at a press conference.

"There is no Real Madrid or Barca, no colours, just a young man who everyone hopes will have a fantastic life.

"Abidal is a fantastic guy, who has had a great career. If he can play again, wonderful; you have to applaud him. If he cannot because it is very serious, we just have to wish him a long and happy life," the ex-Inter coach concluded.
Mourinho's side entertain Malaga in La Liga on Sunday evening.
